Lot Essay

Peggy Chan Pui Leng is a young and versatile artist. The technique she used to create Building I , Building II and Blossom is cyanotype. This technique has a long history. It was first used to create art by Anna Watkins who is regarded as the first female photographer. Through the process, each photographic work is unique, with different tones of Prussian blue depending on the exposure to sunlight. Peggy has chosen cloth as it is the sole permanent medium to print cyanotype on. She depicts the urban environment of her city, Hong Kong and patterns that can be found in it when looking at details, such as old glass windows or tiles.
