Charles James était une personnalité unique dans l’histoire de la haute couture américaine. Parmi ses clients admiratifs, des figures incontournables des deux côtés de l’Atlantique, comme Anne, la Comtesse de Rosse, la Comtesse Etienne de Beaumont, la Duchesse de Gramont, Marie-Christophe de Menil, Doris Duke, Madame Robert Guggenheim, Madame William Randolph Hearst, jr., et Madame Cornelius (Eleanor) Vanderbilt Whitney.
