Lot Essay

In the 1960s Nasaka Yuko continued the early Gutai trend of using non-art materials, but moved on to experiment with new post-war industrial materials and techniques. This work was made using a square wood panel to which she applied a layer of glue, plaster and clay. The panel was then put onto a homemade turntable which was rotated while she applied pressure with a palette knife, creating circular designs. Finally she sprayed it with car lacquer followed by pressurised air from an air-compressor, creating a futuristic finish.
