Lot Essay

Born in Saitama prefecture, Japan, in 1942. He studied under the artist Saito Yoshishige (1904-2001) at Tama Art University and also assisted Takamatsu Jiro (1936-1998) with his work for the 1968 Venice Biennale.

Probably most famous for his 1968 work Phase - Mother Earth (Iso - Daichi). This work brought together Lee Ufan (b. 1936, South Korea) and other artists which resulted in the association that would later become known as Mono-ha (School of things).
