Lot Essay

The eerie and intricate landscape by He Baili is unmistakably atmospheric. Almost calligraphic brushwork, applied in conjunction with the spontaneous splash-ink technique, depicts dynamic scenes of nature bursting with energy. His images of the natural world - lush mountains suffused with mist and dew - poignantly strike a spiritual chord and evoke reverie. Autumn Colours demonstrates He Baili’s impeccable skills of painting from nature. While the lofty mountains enveloped in translucent mist in his art might appear familiar, they go beyond representations - what the artist seeks to capture is the elemental rhythm of nature and its beauty.
