Lot Essay

Clare Rojas is considered to be a member of the Mission School of San Francisco-based artists emerging in the 1990s. The term was coined in 2002 by San Francisco Bay Guardian critic Glen Helfand, grouping together artists like Rojas who worked in a so-called “new folk” or “urban rustic” manner and lived in the city’s Mission district.
