Lot Essay

Untitled, Project Drawing (Standing Man and Woman) from 2001, is exemplary of William Kentridge’s interdisciplinary practice, in which his innate interest in theatre and film intrinsically informs the composition and narrative character of his charcoal drawings. Kentridge skilfully merges the cinematic and the hand drawn, expertly bringing together a typically expansive medium, film, with a conventionally circumscribed one, drawing.
