Lot Essay

Russian-born designer and animator Alexandre Alexeieff created this exceptional poster as part of an innovative campaign for the London and North Eastern Railway (L.N.E.R) in the late 20s/early 30s.
Alexeieff designed the famous 'The Night Scotsman' poster for the L.N.E.R. overnight passenger service between London and Edinburgh. 'London by Sleeper' uses the same image with revised text to advertise the return trip from Edinburgh to London.
