Lot Essay
Accompanied by an OMEGA Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch on 6 November 1970 and its subsequent delivery to Spain. Further accompanied by a rare OMEGA crater box.
The present watch is a very rare and attractive example of the Speedmaster featuring an unusual sought after bezel. In 1970 a new tachymeter bezel was designed by OMEGA. Its characteristic was the printing of the word TACHYMETRE on the bezel without an accent on the E as it used to be in the past. While producing this new configuration OMEGA made a mistake and wrongly numbered the tachymeter scale with 220 appearing instead of 200 on the bezel. This mistake only appeared with Speedmaster produced in the second half of the year 1970 and with movement numbers between 30’589’xxx and 31.000.xxx. The present “220 bezel” example is a very rare and exciting find for any avid collector.
The Speedmaster ST 145022 is illustrated with its crater box in OMEGA, A Journey Through Time by Marco Richon,
2007, p. 604.
