OMEGA has held a truly admirable history in sports timekeeping. Appointed as Official Timekeeper for a total of 21 Olympic Games over the 20th century, they were able to offer their expertise was essential to competitions, as they managed the systems for timing and measuring competitions.

The 2006 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XX Olympic Winter Games or Torino 2006, was a multi-sport event that was held in Turin, Italy, from February 10 to 26, 2006. For the events at Torino 2006, OMEGA delivered competition details and results in record time through on-site scoreboards and displays for those involved in the momentous occasion, including judges, participants, coaches and the public.

To celebrate the Turin 2006 Olympic Winter Games, OMEGA produced three series of classic Speedmaster chronographs. These limited edition timepieces were based on original designs from the Broad Arrow, Aqua Terra and Speedmaster Automatic collections. A notable and distinguishable feature of these special editions were the Olympic interlinking colored rings symbol that formed the counterweight of the split or central seconds hands.

The present watch is from an edition of only 26 examples made and is considered the centerpiece of the OMEGA Torino 2006 Olympic Collection. The five colored rings form the counterweight of the rattrapante hand, and the Torino 2006 mark in blue at 12 o’clock underscores OMEGA's role as Official Timekeeper. The luminous 'broad arrow' hour and minute hands recall those of the original Speedmasters, keeping the historical narrative of this legendary model alive.
