In a review of the 1951 William Zorach one-man show at The Downtown Gallery, which featured a marble version of the present sculpture, New York Times critic William Devree praised, "there is something of the sinuous appeal of traditional Hindu figures in the lovely marble 'Kneeling Figure.' (February 25, 1951, Arts section, p. X9)
