Lot Essay

“[Jensen’s] work reveals an artist who combined the painterly concerns of the New York School with a range of personal interests, including the I Ching, the color theories of Geothe and occult number systems. His paintings tend to look like big tote boards full of diagrams, numbers and astrological references. The paint is often as thick as cake frosting in prismatically arranged hues....the work comes across as a compassionate quest for larger meanings”
(William Wilson, “Artist Arrived—in a Burst of Offbeat Abstract Colors,” Los Angeles Times, April 13, 1981, p. B24).
