Provenance:
Acquired by the present owner from the family of the artist in the mid-2000s.
The Lingnan School of Painting, influential in Guangzhou and Hong Kong at the turn of the 20th century, also gave birth to two remarkable female artists – Fang Zhaolin and Irene Chou, both students of Zhao Shao’ang. Fang Zhaolin developed from flower-and-bird painting in the typical style of Lingnan School to a humorous and colourful landscape paintings (Lots 701 and 741), which serve as an allegoric longing for peace and prosperity.
