The Memovox Deep Sea made its debut in 1959 and was the first diver watch with an alarm function. The purpose of the alarm is to remind the diver when to return to the surface. In 2011, Jaeger-LeCoultre came out with a new version to commemorate the original Deep Sea Alarm. The present watch stays true to the 1959 design and functions while featuring a plexiglass crystal and 100 meter depth rating.
The tribute model came in two variations - one for the US market limited to 359 pieces and one for the European market limited to 959 pieces. The main difference is in the design of the dial with less writing for the European market model.
The present watch is a prototype for this series and is numbered 000 of a limited edition of 359 examples only and is in “like new” overall condition. This watch is particularly interesting because it is fitted with a case for the US market with engraved limited series number 359 pieces on the case back but with a European market dial.
According to a letter from the Jaeger-LeCoultre Boutique Director, Hong Kong, the original owner purchased the present watch from the Jaeger-LeCoultre Boutique at 1881 Heritage in Hong Kong and 10% of the sale proceeds of the present watch was donated to the End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation, Hong Kong.
