Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe undated Certificate of Origin, product literature, instruction manual, leather wallet, fitted presentation box and outer packaging. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with slate-grey dial, 1 baton-cut diamond index and 10 diamond hour markers in 1997 and its subsequent sale on 27 October 1997.

The present lot is an exquisite, very rare and for the first time seen version of the famous reference 3990 in pink gold with a grey slate dial. Further to our research, no other reference 3990 in pink gold is known with a grey slate dial. Other pink examples commonly feature a pink dial, rending the present lot one of the excessively rare specimen available today on the market.

Furthermore, the present reference 3990 stands out by its overall pristine condition, with sharp case proportions, crisp hallmarks, well defined fluted lugs and untouched "sunburst" grey slate dial, displaying a superb shine, further enhanced by the 40 baguette-cut diamonds of 2.76 carats.

Appealing, not only with its looks but also thanks to its sophisticated movement, this trophy features a perpetual calendar, phases of the moon and a chronograph measuring 60 seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours.

This watch has never been offered at auction before.

Reference 3990 was in production between 1995 and 2005 and was replaced by reference 5971.
