Lot Essay
With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin dated 3 August 2006, additional case back, setting pin, instruction manual, leather wallet, fitted presentation box and outer packaging. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 2005 and its subsequent sale on 24 January 2005.
The present lot is fresh to the market and offered here in excellent condition.
This horological complication with its beautiful silvered dial and elegantly fluted lugs succeeds in giving its wearer the feel of a classic watch with contemporary flair. With its large diameter of 40 mm., the dial offers readability while exuding timeless sophistication.
A successor of the celebrated reference 3970 (please see Lot 2455 in this sale) and virtual “grandchild” of Patek Philippe’s legendary reference 2499 (please see Lot 2454 in this sale), reference 5970 was introduced to the market at the Basel Fair in April 2005 and remained in production until about 2010. The model immediately enjoyed enormous popularity amongst collectors and was available in white gold or pink gold only until 2007 when the production of these two versions ceased. Reference 5970 in yellow gold was in production only in 2008. From 2008 until the end of production, the model was available exclusively in platinum. Reference 5970 was replaced by the smaller reference 5270, introduced at Basel World in 2011, which boasts an additional day/night indication on the dial, as well as a separate leap year cycle and is equipped with the in-house calibre CH 29-535 PS Q.
Reference 5970 is the last perpetual calendar chronograph of the manufacture featuring the Geneva seal on the movement as Patek Philippe began stamping their movements with the Patek Philippe Seal from the mid-2009s as a new quality benchmark for its mechanical timepieces.
