Lot Essay

Jacques Bailly will include this work in the forthcoming third volume of his Jean Dufy catalogue raisonné.

Jean Dufy depicts Les Clowns Musiciens as a lively orchestra playing in the midst of frivolities, with vibrant colours and a very dynamic composition.

The painting was previously owned by Sarah Wood Armour, a devoted patron of the world renowned Lyric Opera, board member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Ravina Music Festival.

This charismatic painting demonstrates the joys affiliated with live music that the late owner had been so devoted to throughout her entire life.
