Massimo di Veroli has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

The present work hung in the artist’s home until at least 1929. It can be seen in Mintchine’s touching 1928 painting of his daughter Irene Mintchine in the Cradle, (Veroli, 1981, no. 66, Collection of Giovanni di Veroli) where the Lion hangs above the sleeping baby.
