Born on the 18th of October 1905, Felix Houphouet-Boigny became the first President of Ivory coast in 1960. Aiming to lead his nation towards independence and economic prosperity, Houphouet Boigny assisted the development of his country through its cocoa and coffee industry, as well as strong international relations with western economies such as France. Lasting until 1993, his leadership made Houphouet-Boigny, affectionately called Papa Houphouet, the third longest-serving leader after Fidel Castro and North Korean leader Kin II-Sung.
