Lot Essay
Il 1965 è l'anno del primo viaggio di Tano Festa a New York, dove l'artista tra le altre opere realizzerà una serie di cieli, Cielo meccanico, Cielo Newyorkese, Grande Nuvola. Qui il cielo azzurro con nuvole, che era un tema caro a Tano Festa già dal 1963, diventa più dinamico, si divide in riquadri, viene attraversato da strisce e palline. L'artista stesso diceva "...a New York in quel momento era talmente tutto Op che anche il cielo finiva per essere visto a palline, a strisce, a quadrettini..." (T. Festa, 1967).
In 1965, Tano Festa travelled to New York for the first time, and the works he produced there were to include a series of skies, Cielo meccanico, Cielo Newyorkese, Grande Nuvola (Mechanical Sky, New York Sky, Great Cloud). In these works, the blue sky, which had been a theme close to Festa's heart since 1963, became more dynamic, was divided into squares and crossed by stripes and spots. The artist himself declared: "...in New York at that time everything was so Op that even the sky ended up looking like spots, stripes, little squares..." (T. Festa, 1967)
