The genesis of this work - the realisation in semi-precious stones of one of Boetti's typical aphorisms, and of which only two versions created in these materials exist - stemmed from the fortuitous encounter between the artist and the owner of the work, the proprietor of a well-known gallery of oriental art situated near the Pantheon in Rome, a stone's throw from Boetti's studio. As a result of their trips together to Kabul, visits to its bazaars and the artist's frequent visits to his friend's gallery in Rome, and the ensuing fascination for crafts made in India, the artist came up with the idea of having two prototypes of Pensato e quadrato made in semi-precious stones, to coincide with one of the gallery owner's trips to India.
