Lot Essay

With a platinum short chain, the disc engraved with the National Emblem of the Sultanate of Oman, London import hallmarks for 1982.
This particularly beautiful and complicated skeletonized dress watch is set with sixty-two diamonds around the bezel, the colour combination of the heavy white gold case contrasting with the deep blue of the dials and moon phase is particularly beguiling, furthermore it is in superb, almost new condition. According to the archives of Audemars Piguet, the present watch was sold in 1986 through their London retailer. Audemars Piguet’s London retailer at this time was Asprey of Bond Street, a firm very well known for supplying some of the most lavish and expensive watches to the Sultan. Audemars Piguet made several different pieces for Oman and all were sold through London. The platinum chain accompanying the watch is engraved with the National Emblem of the Sultanate of Oman. The chain has London import hallmarks for 1982, therefore in all probability it was already in stock at Asprey, subsequently engraved and sold with the watch in 1986.
