DIAL: silvered with applied gold square and Arabic numerals, minute and second divisions, outer pulometre scale graduated to 200 units, two sunk subsidiary dials for constant seconds and 30 minutes register

Furthermore delivered with the photocopy of Patek Philippe France invoice for the servicing of the watch, dated 22 January 2014, and a later Patek Philippe wooden presentation box

Lot Essay

The chronograph wristwatch offered here for sale is a very appealing example of Patek Philippe's celebrated “spider lugs” reference 1579, distinguished the combination of two rare features, the pink gold case and the pulsation dial, confirmed by the Extract from the Archives. It is in fact believed to be the only second reference 1579 in pink gold with pulsometre scale known to exist to date – the other example sold in this saleroom in November 2014, lot 58.

Overhauled in the workshops of Patek Philippe in 2014, the watch is furthermore preserved in very good overall condition.

Reference 1579
Reference 1579 was launched at the Basel fair in 1943 and remained in Patek Philippe catalogues until 1964. The three-piece cases were made by Wenger, the dials were provided by the renowned Stern Frères, the movements based on the Valjoux 13''' ébauche, renamed by Patek Philippe calibre 13-130 after having been finished to highest standards in the firm’s workshops.

Reference 1579 was made in two series:

-1st series from 1943 to 1949: Arabic and baton numerals, baton or feuille hands
-2nd series from 1950 to 1964: Arabic and square numerals, feuille hands, such as the present watch
