Lot Essay

This reference 5500 is offered here in the scarcer white gold version. Purchased by the original owner, preserved in excellent overall condition and with all accessories, a further layer of appeal is granted by the prestigious Gübelin Zurich stamp on the Certificate, one of the most prominent and historic Swiss watch retailers.

Reference 5500
Launched in 1997 to celebrate the inauguration of Patek Philippe's new watchmaking centre in Geneva, reference 5500 instantaneously fascinates the collector of rare timepieces with the voluptuous shape of tis case. Obviously inspired by landmark reference 2441 - the so-called "Tour Eiffel" - reference 5500 updates that mythical design with more generous dimensions, very elegant thanks to the flared sides while still strong and masculine due to the large and iconic "Tour Eiffel-style" lugs.
The model was produced in a limited edition of 1100 examples in yellow gold, 500 in pink, 250 in white gold, and 150 in platinum.
