MOVEMENT: manual, cal. 19’’’, 29 jewels, minute repeating with two hammers on two gongs
DIAL: annular white enamel, Roman numerals, blued steel centre with animated blacksmiths forging at the anvil during the repeating creating the illusion that the sound is made by striking the anvil, subsidiary seconds
CASE: 18K gold, entirely engraved in a repeated pattern, both covers decorated with translucent royal blue enamel over sunray engine-turning, the front cover with a central gold engraved and rose-cut diamond-set flower spray, repeating slide in the band, glazed gold-rimmed cover and hinged gold cuvette, 54 mm. diam.

Lot Essay

The “forgerons” or blacksmith automaton watches are rare, only a few examples have ever appeared publically. The present watch is a fine example in a hunter case lavishly decorated with enamel and diamonds. The movement is also of high quality, attributable to LeCoultre.
