The present reference 570 is doubtlessly one of the most beautiful examples of the landmark model to appear in public in recent years, featuring an ultra-rare combination of a pink gold case, a two-tone pink gold dial and sweep centre seconds.
To the best of our knowledge, only five other ref. 570 with this "pink-on-pink" configuration have appeared in public to date, this specimen however being the only one with Arabic and baton numerals known.
Preserved in superb overall condition with a full case, immaculate satin-finish and crisp hallmarks, enhanced by the two-tone pink dial free from any cosmetic interventions and furthermore fresh to the market it represents a fine trophy for the collector of rare timepieces.
Reference 570
For nearly three quarters of a century, Patek Philippe's signature Calatrava design was the purest and most timeless wristwatch in production, and over the course of time, numerous case and dial versions have been produced. The original version, reference 96, is considered by many the single best known wristwatch model ever made by Patek Philippe. In 1938, a few years after its introduction, reference 96 was given a larger case version, a "bigger brother", now no longer just 30mm in diameter, but a substantial 36mm in size. This "large Calatrava" came in two variants, reference 530, with a concave bezel, and reference 570, such as the present watch, with a flat cylindrical bezel.
Reference 570 reamined in production until around 1972 and was available with either subsidiary or sweep centre seconds, the latter with calibre 12 SC or 27 SC. It was made in stainless steel, stainless steel and gold, yellow, pink gold, white gold and platinum.
