The present watch is a beautiful example of the stylish water-resistant Calatrava reference 2508, featuring the rare pink gold case. Never been subject to careless polishing, demonstrated by the crisp gold marks to the right side of the band and underneath the upper right lug, it is of exactly the pristine quality a discerning collector would hope for. The rarity is further enhanced by the presence of the original certificate and the fact that it has never been offered in public before.
Reference 2508
Reference 2508, the large water-resistant “Calatrava” with sweep centre seconds and calibre 27 SC, was launched in 1951 and remained in production until around 1960.
In today's market, reference 2508 is undoubtedly amongst the most popular "time only" wristwatches by Patek Philippe. Its plain yet masculine and sporty look make it a great collector's watch, especially since its case proportions are very much identical to the much celebrated screw-back chronograph reference 1463.
The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 204, pl. 328, and in Philippe Museum - Patek Philippe Watches, Volume II, p. 232.
