Lot Essay

Dr. Joachim Pissarro will include this work in his forthcoming Catalogue Raisonné of Drawings by Camille Pissarro.
Executed in 1888, Les Seigles depicts the landscape at Eragny-sur-Epte, where the artist moved in 1884 and remained until his death in 1903. Pissarro returned to capture the same exact viewpoint in a pastel titled Les coteaux de Thierceville circa 1889-1890 (L.R. Pissarro and L. Venturi, no. 1582). The first owner of this work, Georges Bergaud, was a director of the Galeries Georges Petit in Paris.
