Production of the reference 5040 began in 1992 and ceased in 2009. It was produced in yellow, pink, and white gold, as well as in platinum. The majority were produced in yellow gold, with the least being produced in pink gold.

The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by M. Huber & A. Banbery, second edition, p. 295.

To the best of our knowledge, this watch has never been offered in public.
