Lot Essay

The present watch is an exceptionally rare reference CK 2042 made for pilots. The watch is notable not only for the bold luminous Arabic numerals on the dial and the inner bezel demarcated for timing up to 12 hours, but also for its large case diameter, thought to be able to not only be worn on the wrist, but also around jackets sleeves or around pants in a plane.

These watches are a key part of the history of OMEGA’s affiliation with spaceflight, from early planes to trips that saw mankind walk on the Moon.

A similar watch is featured on page 21 of “Omega Watches” by John Goldberger.
