Lot Essay

The present watch is a rare version of the GMT-Master reference 1675, which combines elements of the late 1950s reference 6542 series - the missing crown guards, luminous dauphine hands, and the small tip on the 24-hour hand - and elements of the newly introduced reference 1675 with a matte brown "bicchierini" dial and metal bezel insert. Only the earliest reference 1675 examples in 18k gold were produced without the crown guards and they are of increasing desirability to collectors today. The present watch should be of interest to a sophisticated collector of rare Rolex sports watches.

Reference 1675 is illustrated in 100 Years of Rolex by F. & G. Mondani, 2008, p. 91.
