Production of reference 5004 was launched in 1994 and remained in production until 2009. It is estimated that less than 140 examples of this reference were made in white gold over this entire time period. Of all 5004s, excluding the 5004s made in stainless steel, white gold examples are believed that to be the rarest case color. For point of comparison, approximately 300 platinum 5004s are estimated to have been produced. Patek Philippe replaced it with two other much slimmer and smaller platinum split-seconds chronograph references: the cushion-shaped reference 5951 released in 2010 with in-house caliber CHR 27-525 PS Q and the reference 5204, released in March 2012 at the BaselWorld with in-house caliber CHR 29-535 PS Q.
The presently offered 5004G was made in 1997 and tested for accuracy in November 2014 by the Patek Philippe Salon in Geneva. The accompanying test results show this watch as performing excellently.
