Reference 5270 was introduced to the market at Baselworld in April 2011 and replaced the celebrated reference 5970. The 5270 is slimmer than the reference 5970 and offers its wearer the addition of a day/night indication. The base caliber is also completely in-house and replaces the Lemania-based calibers used on all Patek Philippe’s perpetual calendar chronographs since 1986. Representing a new era of watchmaking from Patek Philippe, the reference 5270 is the standard bearer of the Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronograph dating back to the 1940s with the introduction of the reference 1518.
The presently offered example is not only important for its fine condition and complete kit, but for also the fact that it is one of the first 5270s ever made. With the desirable black baton -001 dial and ‘non-chin’ date, this first variation of the 5270 is recognized for its small production run and its aesthetic appeal.
