Lot Essay

A similar drawing in watercolor of a woman looking up was at the sale Sotheby’s, Amsterdam, 2 November 2004, lot 99. The present sheet, remarkable for its sophisticated mixed technique, may have been the study from life on which the more finished watercolor is based.
