Lorsqu’Hubert de Givenchy reçoit ce guéridon en cadeau de Gustav Zumsteg, c’est sa première œuvre de Diego Giacometti. Il demande à Zumsteg de le présenter à l’artiste. Celui-ci organise la rencontre dans l’atelier de Diego, rue Hyppolite Maindron dans le 14e arrondissement de Paris. Monsieur de Givenchy découvre alors un homme au chapeau mou, le mégot à la bouche, les mains couvertes de plâtre, d’une grande humilité et d’une extrême gentillesse. Il est fasciné par son talent immense, devient bientôt son ami et l’un de ses plus grands commanditaires.
When Hubert de Givenchy received this pedestal table as a gift from Gustav Zumsteg, it was his first piece by Diego Giacometti. He asked Zumsteg to introduce him to the artist.
