Lot Essay

Consigned by a descendent of the original owner, the present watch has never been offered in public before. Preserved in exceptionally good condition, it is one of fewer than two dozen recorded independent dead second watches by Patek Philippe, including the very first examples made by Patek and Czapek. Manufactured in 1892 this watch is furthermore a very early specimen of this rare model.

A virtually identical, however much later movement (oo. 174'021), is illustrated in Patek Philippe by Martin Huber and Alan Banbery, p. 195.
