Reference 5170 was launched in 2010 and offered a new look compared to its predecessor, the reference 5070. The tachymeter scale was replaced by a pulsation scale, inspired by earlier chronographs from the vintage era, and it house the latest caliber 29-535 PS with Patek Philippe's new mark of excellence, the Patek Philippe seal.
When the 5170J was launched in 2010 in yellow gold, the only dial option was with a pulsometer and Roman numerals. In 2013, a white gold 5170 was launched with white pulsometer dial. In 2015, it was offered with a black dial, applied Breguet numerals cased in white gold, and no pulsometer; one year later, the pink gold version such as the present watch was introduced into the market. A simple 60 minute track gives the watch a bold and clean appearance very reminiscent of a 1940s/1950s aesthetic.
