Lot Essay

The success of Patek Philippe is their ability to cater to the needs and taste of all their collectors. One of the manufacture’s longstanding complicated classics, the Reference 5960, combining a self-winding chronograph with annual calendar developed and manufactured in-house was first introduced in platinum in 2006, then in pink gold and in 2014, Patek Philippe astonished collectors with the Reference 5960/1A, a stainless steel sporty version with bracelet.

This same reference 5960 was also the inspiration behind the reference 5961, a bejeweled iteration fitted with a baguette-cut diamond-set bezel that was introduced in 2011.  The present lot Reference 5961P/011 is the much rarer sapphire variation, adorned with 58 baguette sapphires with a total weight of 5.3 carats. In addition to the bezel, the black dial hour markers and the deployant buckle are also set with baguette-cut sapphires. Merging high technology with haute joiallerie, the 5961P/011 continues to titillate Patek Philippe’s collectors with its unique blend of elegance and watchmaking excellence.
