Lot Essay

Lots 74 & 75 are maquettes for the series Personatge I Estels I (Figure and Stars) , a set of seven etchings which Miró made with the printer Joan Barbará in Barcelona and which were published by Maeght in 1979. These remarkable working proofs reveal the artist’s experimental method of creating an image by placing and re-positioning the compositional elements in a playful way across the picture plane, using collage, brush and ink, and hand-colouring.
