Formerly Chester Dale Carter Collection, New York. Chester Dale Carter was first part of General Douglas MacArthur’s staff and later an oil company executive, who lived in Japan in the early 1950s and there collected Japanese and Chinese art, including important ancient Chinese bronzes that are now in the Princeton University Art Museum.
