Lot Essay

Consigned by a private collector and fresh to the market the present Cosmograph Daytona featuring the iconic ‘Paul Newman’ dial is a very attractive representative of a reference 6241 in 18K gold. The champagne dial retains its original condition, all luminous accents are intact and in a shade perfectly matching the luminescence to the gold hands. The gilt printing is distinct and very well defined, the case is full, the gold marks and serial and reference numbers are crisp. Another noteworthy fact is the designation "ROW" stamped on the movement, indicating that the original destination for the watch was the North American market

This impressive ref. 6241 is without a doubt a unique occasion to acquire one of the exceedingly rare “Exotic Daytona” chronographs in gold.

Reference 6241 was introduced to the market in the early 1960s and remained in production until around 1969. Approximately 3’000 watches were produced during that period, out of which possibly less than 10% in 18K gold, mostly with common Daytona dials. This leads us to believe that only a fraction of these chronographs were fitted with an “Exotic” Paul Newman dial.
