the complete set of four etchings, 1621, on laid paper, the first plate with watermark Cross of Lorraine (Lieure 29), the others with an associated countermark 4/NG (Lieure 35), a very fine, uniform set of early impressions, the first plate second state (of four), the others second, final state, printing with great contrasts, a light plate tone and inky plate edges, with margins, very good condition

In fine, early sets such as the present one, Les Bohemiens is one the most sought-after series in the oeuvre of Jacques Callot, and perhaps one that was particularly close to his heart: legend has it that at the tender age of twelve, he left his home in Nancy for the first time to join a group of travellers, whom he accompanied all the way to Florence.
