Lot Essay

La Savonneuse forms a pair with La Jardiniere by Moret, which depicts an equally loosely dressed young woman leaning out of a window to water her potted plants, also after a design by Augustin de Saint-Aubin. The Art Institute of Chicago has an impression of each subject, but both prints appear to be extremely rare.
