Lot Essay

Hohan Christian Dahl was the preeminent Norwegian painter of the 19th Century and the first to achieve international recognition. The son of a fisherman in Bergen, he trained at the art academy in Copenhagen and later he travelled to Dresden, where he became a close friend of Caspar David Friedrich.
