A delightful series of letters from Thorburn to a fellow artist Philip Rickman (1891-1982) studied art in Paris and London, later specialising in ornithological works. His technique owed much to Thorburn, to whom he had been introduced by George Edward Lodge; evidently, his own collection included a number of the older man’s works from which he could draw inspiration.
