Lot Essay
In August 1909, the Russian Imperial family attended the Cowes Regatta on the Isle of Wight, where they were welcomed by King Edward VII. James Gallaway, who was the Deputy Chief Constable on the Isle of Wight, was responsible for their security during the visit. In recognition of his services, Emperor Nicolas II presented him with this pair of cufflinks. The Standard newspaper, dated 6 August 1909, detailed the gift to James Gallaway under the title 'Czar's Lavish Presents'.
