NOTE :
The recipient of this painting is the renowned sculptor and art historian Wang Ziyun (1897-1990). Born in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, he studied in France in 1931, and returned to China to teach at the Hangzhou National Art College. One of his greatest achievements was setting up the Northwest Art and Cultural Relics Exploration Mission to the Northwest in the 1940s. Since Wu Guanzhong was a student at the Hangzhou National Art College, he addressed Wang as “teacher” in the letter.
