Lot Essay

The reference 1463 at its inception into the market, first in 1940, was marketed as the strongest chronograph that Patek Philippe had ever produced. Thought of as a sports watch then, it was in production for almost 30 years and is one of the firms most iconic chronographs. The present watch dates to the first series of production, produced until circa 1945.

What is perhaps most appealing about the present watch is its attractive two-tone dial. When seen in various light, the two-toned silvered rings are extremely striking and offer an added layer of appeal to this popular vintage timepiece. Examples of the reference 1463 with two-tone dials are extremely rare and sought after by the modern collector.
