“Non potevo fare qualcosa di simile a questo [un autoritratto dipinto] su un riflesso reale. Era una cosa che poteva andare bene per uno sfondo dipinto, ma non per una rappresentazione oggettiva. È per questo che dovevo fare qualcosa da usare per la figura che fosse obiettivo quanto il riflesso. Ed è per questo che non potevo fare a meno della fotografia”.
"I could not do something like this [a painted self-portrait] from a real reflection. It was something that could have worked as a painted background, but not as an objective representation. This is why I had to make something to use for the figure that was as objective as the reflection. And that is why I could not do it without photography ".
