Lot Essay

KASHMIR
There are many reasons why sapphires from Kashmir are the most sought after. Their colour, often described as ‘cornflower blue’, is very particular and enhanced by a charming velvet-like milk-blue. Most importantly, sapphires from Kashmir are very rare, as the mines were exhausted within 10 years, having only been at full exploitation between 1881 and 1887.
